Kurzer Überblick:
Butanol ist ein Alkohol mit der Formel Câ‚ Hâ‚h und kann durch petrochemische Verfahren oder durch Fermentieren von Zucker aus Mais und landwirtschaftlichen Nutzpflanzen hergestellt werden. n-Butanol wird hauptsächlich als Chemikalie verkauft. N-Butanol ist im Vergleich zu Isobutanol eine weltweit überlegene Chemikalie.
Herstellungsverfahren:
N-Butanol kann auf natürliche Weise als Produkt der Zuckerfermentation und der Kohlenhydrate vorkommen. N-Butanol wird jedoch hauptsächlich in der Industrie eingesetzt, wo eine Produktion in großem Maßstab erforderlich ist. Dies wird erreicht, indem das Propylen-Ausgangsmaterial in Gegenwart eines homogenen Katalysators einem „Oxo-Prozess“ unterzogen wird. Dadurch entsteht Butyraldehyd in großen Mengen in der petrochemischen Industrie. Der gewonnene Butyraldehyd wird anschließend zu n-Butanol hydriert.
